The apartment complex, which marks the entry of Opus West into the Southern California multifamily market, will consist of two four-story buildings and is part of a 13-acre mixed-use development planned by Opus West that will include office space, restaurants and a hotel.
The apartment portion of the development will offer units of one, two and three bedrooms, ranging in size from 615 sf to 1,400 sf, according to Paul Marshall, an Opus West SVP. Marshall says the combination of residential, commercial and other uses envisioned for Campus Centre will create "a true mixed-use environment" within Irvine's growing downtown core. The new development will be built adjacent to existing retail space, restaurants, hotels, business parks and corporate headquarters located along the Jamboree corridor.
Opus has named Orange-based Architects Orange as the project architect. The design will feature four different floor plans and will include fourth-floor loft-style units. A clubhouse, a pool and an indoor basketball court are also planned.
Opus West is already developing apartment projects throughout Northern California and Texas but was waiting for the right opportunity to enter the Southern California, says Marshall, who heads all Southern California development activity for the Phoenix-based Opus West division. Besides the apartments at Campus Centre, the developer will build office buildings at the southeast corner of the site, as well as a five-story parking structure.
Other Opus West developments nearby include the completed Opus Center Irvine I and II, totaling 575,000 sf of Class-A high-rise office space in the Irvine Concourse at the corner of Main Street and MacArthur Boulevard; and a 150,000-sf build-to-suit office building that the company developed for Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. at Jamboree and the Santa Ana (5) Freeway. The projects are part of 5 million sf of office, industrial and retail space that the developer has produced in Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. Opus West is part of the Opus Group of Companies, one of the nation's largest developers.
