Large Sector of Immigrants Spend Half of Salaries on Housing

WASHINGTON, DC-A research affiliate of the National Housing Conference releases a study on immigrant housing that concludes that the increasingly growing segment of US residents is 70% more likely than US-born residents to spend more than half its monthly income on housing.

"As the fastest growing segment of America's workforce, immigrants are of increasing economic importance to their communities, but affordable housing concerns and crowding data revealed in this study make it clear that today's immigrants are facing more than the traditional challenges of their predecessors," NHC chairman G. Allan Kingston explains. The report is the first in what will be several specially funded studies released on the state of working families.
