According to Jason Kaplan, vice president of the Highland Park, NJ-based Kaplan Cos., the property had been used as a staging area for trucks and was remediated by the previous owner prior to his company's acquisition of the site. The cost of the project, which will be under construction shortly, has not been disclosed.

The Meadows at Ridgefield Park is one of several development efforts underway in this community, which is located just west of Manhattan. Local officials are said to be in the process of securing grants to revitalize the community's downtown area; additional efforts are underway to improve waterfront access and to convert an abandoned paper mill into an office complex.

"We are looking forward to developing an in-fill project that is in line with the state's 'smart growth' initiative," says Kaplan, whose company has built more than 20,000 residential units in the state over the years. "The property we are developing is in the state's 'green zone,' where development is encouraged."
