Kortz plans to continue the chamber's goal to improve the metro Denver's economy. Although the local economy is slowly getting better, he notes that the Denver market continues to suffer from "job losses, as our cities are facing decreased revenue bases," he said.

The chamber needs to continue to focus on transportation, health care, small business and workforce development, as well as water management policies, he says.

Also, space-science and biotechnology are promising areas for growth, and should be priorities, he says.

Kortz takes over from Cathey Finlon, chairwoman and CEO of McClain Finlon Advertising.
