Officials at the groundbreaking ceremony announced that the project's fifth major anchor will be JC Penney, which will join the four previously announced anchors and several upscale retailers that were announced at the event.
In addition to previously publicized anchors AMC Theaters, Macy's, Robinsons-May, and the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, the project's major retailers will include Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters, Anchor Blue, Ann Taylor Loft, Cold Water Creek, Express, Hollister, Lane Bryant, New York and Company, Pacific Sunwear and Talbots.
Working to meet a targeted October 2004 grand opening, the project was already well under way before the groundbreaking. Rough grading for the site has taken place, and some of the infrastructure work such as streets, curbs, gutters and sewer lines has been completed. Additional infrastructure work will be completed in the next several months, and actual construction of the anchor buildings is anticipated to begin in October.
Approximately six months after the opening of Victoria Gardens the Rancho Cucamonga Cultural Center will open its doors. The center will include a 540-seat performing arts center, a library and banquet facilities.
Besides the anchors and major retailers, specialty stores slated as upcoming tenants for the project include The Children's Place, ECCO, Finish Line, J. Stephens, Journeys, Kay Jewelers, Mimi Maternity, Rockport, Strausburg Children and Victoria's Secret. Restaurants will also play an important role in the make-up of the project, and the developer has announced that the California Pizza Kitchen chain will place one of its newest stores at Victoria Gardens.
Additional in-line tenants who have indicated an interest in Victoria Gardens and have signed official letters of intent are expected to be announced after leases are signed.
