Gander Mountain, an outdoor retailer owned by Bloomington-based Holiday Cos., also soon plans to open a superstore in Lakeville, MN, two in Pennsylvania and two in New York.
Superstores are double the size of a regular store and have added such things as a gunsmith service, ATV sales and service, home and cabin décor items, a kayak-testing pool, an archery shop and meeting space for local organizations. Cabela's opened an even larger outdoor sporting goods superstore in Owatonna, MN, several years ago.
The Columbus Township store, which is at 14640 W. Freeway Dr., opened last week and is the sixth Gander Mountain Superstore to open this year and the first in Minnesota. Gander Mountain opened its first superstore in Geneva, IL, this spring.
Gander Mountain, headquartered in Bloomington, is an outdoor retailer that specializes in hunting, fishing and family camping gear as well as outdoor apparel. The 63 stores are located mostly in the Midwest in such states as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Illinois and New York.
