In September 2003 there were a total of 1,033 permits issued for 1,624 planned units, including 887 single-family homes and 737 multifamily units, for a value of $273.7 million, according to the latest report from the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. The overall number of planned units was higher than any September in the last decade.

Year-to-date, multifamily planned units remain at 49% of the total (6,752 multi-family units vs. 7,112 single-family units). This compares to multifamily units running at 44% in 2002, 41.5% in 2001, and 37.5% in 2000.

Last month was 23% ahead of September 2002's 837 permits, almost 15% ahead of last September's 1,413 planned units, and 31% ahead in the $209.4 million value. Comparing to the same four-week period during the last six years, September 2003 was ahead of every year in both permits and planned units.

For planned units in September of 2003, Ramsey had the most permits with 188, Blaine followed with 111, Maple Grove with 101, Lakeville with 87, and Farmington with 74 rounded out the top five.
