The 17,788-seat arena at the 6520 N. 91st Ave. was a coup for this city, which stole the Phoenix-based team with the promise of a splashier ice rink, larger accommodations and an additional 1,589 seats. Ken Schacherbauer, project executive for Perini Building Co., says the arena is on target for a Dec. 23 completion, but will be opened to the public from noon to 4 p.m. for the Nov. 30 preview. Workers are still putting finishing touches on the site, including completion of the upper concourse concession areas and the lower suites, Schacherbauer says.

The arena will host its first event Dec. 26 when Arizona's new national Lacrosse League team faces the Vancouver Ravens for the arena's first game. The Coyotes will take to the ice against the Nashville Predators Dec. 27.
