The heliport, located in Battersea and licensed by the CAA, also has a dedicated VIP lounge and aircraft parking and was sold in a private deal with no formal marketing of the property and no speculation about the price. Estimates of price have been made even more difficult because of the unique nature of the asset.
But what is known is that Fayed bought the heliport in autumn 2000 from engineering group GKN for less than £1 million ($1.7 million). Two years later he finally lost a series of planning battles with Kensington & Chelsea council which he had hoped would allow him to use the roof of Harrods as a helicopter landing pad. Fayed also failed in his High Court bid to stop plans for a 15-storey development next door to the Heliport at Falcon Wharf.
