Construction of the 63 for-sale single-family and townhouse units is scheduled to begin in September 2004, he adds, with completion expected in early 2006.
The first phase of the Robert Taylor Homes redevelopment will be built on a 12.2-acre site where one of three 16-story buildings still stands.
The redevelopment of the Robert Taylor Homes, a string of high-rise buildings on the east bank of the Dan Ryan Expressway, is being done by a joint venture including Brinshore Development LLC and Michaels Development Co. The first phase of their redevelopment project was recommended for approval recently by the city's plan commission.
Although the buildings will not include basements, the design provides accessibility for handicapped owners and renters in all units, Levavi says.
