The fund-raiser, planned as a celebration of life for McCulley, has collected $230,000 for Common Cares Cancer Foundation, which was selected in 2001 as the benefactor by the Dallas-based Weitzman Group's executive vice president who died in April. This year's goal is $100,000. The charitable event will be staged from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at Sipango Restaurant & Bar at 4503 Travis St. in Dallas.

The promoters' common vision is the event will be "the" retail community's holiday fund-raiser each year. The committee is spearheaded by Tim Hughes of Falcon Realty Advisors in Dallas.

Common Cares' vision for the future is to set up cancer support centers throughout the metroplex. It has used Karen's Deal funding to participate in breast cancer awareness outreach programs, create additional support groups for those living with cancer, their families and caregivers, provide electronic displays on 600 Dallas Area Rapid Transit buses, help patients participate in clinical trials in the US and distribute thousands of brochures through the Dallas Public Library.
