Work is again under way on the property's new hotel tower, which will add more than 500 rooms to the property's existing 1,625 rooms, as well as on the dining, entertainment and retail components of the project, according to Aztar spokesman Joe Cole. Work remains halted on the 10-level garage as federal and state officials continue to study the accident to determine a cause.

The 33-story expansion's topping off had been celebrated just a month prior to the accident. Aztar officials have declined to estimate how much of a delay the project, which was slated for completion next April, will incur as a result. Early estimates, however, have put the delay in the three- to six-month range.

When it is completed, the expansion will put the Trop's guest room count at 2,127, making it the largest hotel in the Northeast.
