Pinal County Commissioners have given Johnson International until mid-January to resolve some of the problems with the firm's plans for the La Osa Ranch development, which the firm plans to build five miles west of Interstate 10 just north of the Pima County line.
Among the issues the developer must resolve is the land's ownership, flood control and water management plans and the effect the project, which is expected to house 175,000 residents, will have on the surrounding area, including a national monument and a military training facility. State and federal agencies also are looking into the project because of allegations that the firm released polluted water into the Santa Cruz River, bulldozed public sites and let diseased goats stray onto Ironwood Forest National Monument.
