In addition to the main 73,248-sf store in Chesterfield, the new Art Van includes a 9,200-sf clearance center. The store also features one of Art Van's popular attractions, a Kids Castle where children can play while mom and dad shop.
The store is on Gratiot at 23 Mile, within sight of a Home Depot, Meijers and Kmart stores and a neighboring Kohl's, which opened in fall 2003.
Art Van plans to open its 31st store, at 1220 Walton Blvd. in Rochester Hills, in spring 2005. Art Van bought that store, once part of Great Oaks Mall, for about $4 million from Jacobson's Inc. as part of the Jackson-based retailer's bankruptcy in 2002.
Art Van has knocked down the store and plans to build an 84,000-sf store on the site, said Karen Curley, manager of corporate projects. Art Van is redeveloping the center with Troy-based Frankel Associates Inc., which owns adjacent property.
