Company officials also say they plan on putting the 146,000-sf facility, located on Route 1, on the market for sale. No details about the pending sale have been released. About 120 jobs are involved with the closure, and L'Oreal execs say most of those will be transferred to the company's other locations in the Garden State, including facilities in Somerset, Edison, Piscataway and Clark. The local operation, which involves assembling promotional gift sets, will be outsourced.
The closure marks the second such event this community will have to absorb. Late last year, Johnson & Johnson announced it was shutting down its local manufacturing operation by the end of this year, a move that involves close to 500 jobs (see earlier story).
