Frank Boutin, director of health-care construction for locally based Summit Builders, tells GlobeSt.com that the five-story Estrella Medical Plaza I, set to be completed by the fall, will include a retail component as well as a wellness spa, open patio area, electronic directories and atrium lobbies, all of which will be linked to the hospital via an enclosed pedestrian bridge. The Plaza Cos. of Peoria is the developer.
"It's rather unique," Boutin says of the glass, brick and concrete structure, designed by Butler Design Group of Phoenix under the direction of Orcutt/Winslow Partnership of Phoenix, which serves as the site's designer. The 24-acre complex's uniqueness comes from its tilt-panel construction, which will encompass all five stories, Boutin says, noting that the panels are some of the highest ever used in construction.
The Loop 101 and Thomas Road building also will be one of the first in the area to use an air-conditioned skywalk over 93rd Avenue to link the medical offices with the adjacent hospital.
The project is Summit's fourth for Plaza Cos. The local builder recently completed the first phase of the Princess Medical Center at the Loop 101 and Princess Drive in Scottsdale's Perimeter Center and currently is working on the second phase of that project. Summit also constructed Arrowhead Professional Center Phase III, Plaza Medical & Research Center I as well as the adjacent Plaza Medical & Research Center II, all in Peoria.
