3/10/04: Former President Bill Clinton spoke today at the annual CB Richard Ellis New York Tri-State Region state-of-the-industry breakfast. One of the topics he covered was the outsourcing of jobs and the need for new domestic hiring. In his opinion, to be part of the global economy it is not unreasonable to think that certain jobs will move overseas. As a matter of fact, this has been happening for 50 years in one way or another. Clinton believes America is so flexible and has the ability to adjust to change that new jobs and industries will inevitably be created. The industry he mentioned that could bring a windfall of more than 400,000 new jobs is the field of energy, specifically, creating new sources of energy to supplement our use of oil in the coming decades. Though he made no secret of which side of the aisle he is on for the upcoming election, it was refreshing to hear this strand of optimism.
