That said, one of the chamber's lobbying goals this year is to encourage closer cooperation between units of government.

The merger effort was revived by Pete Enck, the outgoing mayor of New Hope. A potential merger between New Hope and Crystal has been talked about for decades. At one time, the League of Women Voters advocated such a merger. The demographic similarities as well as the fact they already share a fire department were among reasons proponents gave for the merger.

A merger, if undertaken, would take from two to four years to complete.

The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce is located in Minnetonka and represents businesses in Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, New Hope, Crystal, Plymouth, Golden Valley, Medicine Lake, Hopkins, St. Louis Park and Minnetonka.
