The zoning would be changed from office research to manufacturing research if approved by the city council. The rezoning is needed to make way for German automotive supply company Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems to develop a new facility on part of the land. Dr. Schneider says it plans to purchase 10 acres of the land to build a 59,000-sf building on the site. The building is to be built to accommodate a possible expansion that could increase the building size to 152,000 sf. Dr. Schneider makes plastic components for the automotive industry, specializing in ventilation systems.

The vacant land recently was purchased from Intier Automotive Facility, formerly known as Magna, by MS Brighton LLC and M & H Associates of Farmington Hills.
