Other members include Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy and Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans. The commission is expected to include as many as 36 people.
No timetable has been set for how long the commission will study the issue or when a facility would be constructed. Such a facility could include a jail, court, crime labs or other law-enforcement related activities.
"With shrinking budgets and increasing need, we must collectively explore new ideas and opportunities for efficiencies in service delivery and cost," Ficano says.
