Pawlenty insists a bonding bill not exceed his $760-million recommendation, and that the state deficit must be solved before he approves any bonding bill. The state faces a $160-million deficit, and legislators cannot agree on what expenses to cut to solve the problem.
The measure is likely to be revived before the May 17 adjournment deadline, or perhaps in a special session later this spring or summer.
Pawlenty also put in a plug for three projects given short shrift in the Minnesota House of Representatives--the Northstar commuter rail line, housing for the homeless and construction work and debt-relief for the Minnesota Zoo.
