As telecommuting has slowed, 7% of corporate real estate executives tell Gallup pollsters their workers spend between 25% and 50% of their time in unassigned office space. However, 21% expect their worker to spend up to 50% of their time in remote outposts by 2010.
"Corporate Real Estate 2010: Enabling Work in a Networked World" also suggests the pace of executive's jobs will likely speed up. With productivity being measured in real time, decisions on space needs will be made more quickly, the report suggests.
Those decisions could involve transferring property management to outside companies. The Gallup poll found 35% of corporate real estate executives expecting to do that, while twice that number also agree they will transfer additional risk to those service providers as well.
