TREC's 25-member leadership class of 2003-04 gutted and rebuilt a 3,000-sf room in the 29,000-sf building at 2900 Linfield Rd., now bearing the name of its famous Texas donor, Clint W. Murchison Jr. The volunteers worked every weekend in April and into May to build out empty space as a separate facility for teenagers in response to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, which says older youths were reluctant to utilize the recreational facility because they didn't want to commingle with elementary-age children. The teen room is expected to attract more than 300 junior high and high school youths.

A separate group of area volunteers from the rank and file of San Jose, CA-based Cisco Systems Inc. undertook a one-day makeover of the exterior and gymnasium. The New York Life grant will equip a learning center with eight computer stations.

Clint W. Murchison III will cut the ribbon on the newest addition to the 30-year-old facility. The 2 p.m. ceremony will be attended by a bevy of local, city and county officials as well as business and civic leaders and a TREC contingent from its 1,200-member roster.

Each year, a group of 25 young real estate professionals participate in a nine-month program focused on leadership development, community education and philanthropy. The "graduation" is always capped with the completion of a construction project designed to give back to the community.
