A recent township informational meeting drew 350 residents -- many of whom liked the design, but others who expressed concern about traffic and noise. "Milan Township has a major freeway in US 23 and they're in the path of growth," says Bernie Glieberman, president of Crosswinds Communities. For Milan Township, which has 1,670 residents, the plan would mean adding 25,000 to 35,000 residents over the next 15 years.
Developers say planned communities help boost property values and taxes. But critics argue such projects contribute to urban sprawl and require the installation of sewer and water lines services already available in urban areas.
