The proposal, which would require the rezoning of one property, is for a two-story mixed-use building with 6,000 sf of office space on the ground floor and apartments on the top level, although some could be on the ground level as well. Presbyterian Homes scaled back its plans from 20 apartments to no more than nine, but that did not satisfy nearby residents.
One existing single-family home would remain, but two other properties would be demolished for the building and for parking. The plans ran into complaints from residents worried about the impact of the development on traffic when it presented plans at a recent Arden Hills planning commission meeting. The commission also voted 7-0 not to recommend approval of the group's request for rezoning and preliminary plan approval. The issue was to have come before the Arden Hills City Council next week.
More neighborhood meetings are needed before his organization proceeds with any construction, according to the developer.
