The city used $1 million in Empowerment Zone money to help build the center, which includes the ComEd Performing Arts Theatre. It is located near the Chicago Blues District, which also is being revitalized.
Mayor Richard M. Daley notes the 40,000-sf cultural center is the latest addition to an area that is seeing numerous affordable and market-rate housing developments as well as other arts venues, such as the Second City performance space and training center.
