The survey was conducted by Select Greater Philadelphia, the private, nonprofit marketing arm of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. The region encompasses Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Northern Delaware. Its greatest strength, according to those surveyed, is its location in the middle of the Eastern Seaboard. Two thirds, 65% of the site selectors, say the region's proximity to key markets helps it stand above others, and 35% cite its access to qualified talent as a plus.

In other good news, 53% of the respondents say this region is "gaining on the pack," and another 22% say they already consider this region "among the leaders." The goal of the survey was to benchmark professional opinions of this region in comparison with other metro areas among site selectors all across the country.

"Our reality in this region is great; our perception is suffering," concludes Jim Shannon, Select Greater Philadelphia's chief marketing officer. "We have to enhance that perception in order to make the region (come to the) top of mind."
