From the 1920s to the 1960s, Rock Hill Quarry & Supply provided stone for many of the houses along the Philadelphia Main Line and the Manayunk community across the Schuylkill River. As builders increasingly turned to brick and other materials, quarrying here diminished and this, the last of the area quarries, shut down in 1966.
Patrick J. McCabe, a VP with the Wayne-based retail property group of CB Richard Ellis, represented Radcliffe. Strategic Realty Advisors negotiated for O'Neill. O'Neill declines to disclose any specific plans for the parcel, but McCabe says O'Neill is expected to construct high-end residential condominiums. "The entire area has increased in value to the point where multi-unit residential is becoming the highest and best use for a location [so near] Center City without the higher taxes associated with the City of Philadelphia."
