The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission presented the proposal to District officials this week, and will now play the waiting game until MLB's owners' relocation committee makes a decision. The announcement is expected by Oct. 1.
If DC is, indeed, the city of choice for the team, plans will move forward--pending DC Council's approval of financing, which would come predominantly from 30-year bonds--for a park to be built Downtown on M Street at South Capitol Street, right along the Anacostia River. The team would play at the RFK Memorial Stadium in the District until the new ballpark reaches completion. Currently, the proposed 20-acre site is 40% vacant.
