The mall is the dominant retail property in the area, Isaac says. "It's the only regional mall in the area," he says. "They don't really need to add anything, but this is their way of keeping up with the demand."
Dick's is also opening stores at CBL's East Towne and West Towne malls in Madison, WI next month. The sporting goods retailer is also opening a unit in the company's Lakes Mall, Muskegon, MI, by the end of the year. Other major anchors to recently open at CBL malls include a Rich's-Macy's at Arbor Place, Douglasville, GA, at the beginning of the month, and a JCPenney last month in CherryVale Mall, Rockford, IL.CBL, the Chattanooga, TN-based owner of 167 centers (67 of them regional malls), has six projects under construction. In the spring, the company plans to open the 768,000-sf Imperial Valley Mall in El Centro, CA, about 120 miles east of San Diego. Imperial Valley will be CBL's first California center.
