Most recently he was SVP of Denver-based Aimco, a REIT that is the largest publicly traded owner/operator of multifamily properties in the US and which focuses primarily on HUD-subsidized facilities. At Aimco, Mathes was responsible for the operations at a 250-property portfolio, and he was also instrumental in integrating the operations of Insignia's residential management group when it merged with Aimco in 1998.
In a statement, Joseph F. Mullen, Madison's president and CEO, notes that many of the Aimco properties that Mathes oversaw are in markets where Madison currently operates. Madison was founded in 2001 and it now operates or oversees approximately 21,185 units in 77 multifamily properties in 21 states.
