LINWOOD, NJ-Mainland Fitness has signed a lease for 18,000 sf in the first-level retail area within Cornerstone Commerce Center here. The project is a $24 million redevelopment of a vintage 1961 Prudential Insurance Co. regional office.
The signing is the third retail lease closed recently for the Shoppes at Cornerstone, according to Robin Karman, a principal of the Mt. Royal, NJ-based Karman Development Group, which is doing the project. Within the past month, Savaradio's of Ventnor has signed on for a 230-seat fine dining restaurant in the former Prudential cafeteria, and Perkfection Coffee is also set to open by the end of the year.
Mainland Fitness, a locally based operation owned by Scott Rosen and Nick Ly, will open a club that will include everything from weight training equipment to a cardio area. The emphasis will be on small-group personal training.
Located about 10 miles west of Atlantic City, Cornerstone Commerce Center is a 230,000-sf executive office complex and retail lifestyle center. The office component totals 130,000 sf of class A space, and the retail portion includes a 10,000-sf pad site, according to Karman. The redevelopment of former Pru facility, which sits on 24 acres, has involved demolishing the building to its primary structure and completely reconstructing it.
