The store, which is located on the north side of the mall on the first level, is the company's fourth. Waikiki Traders also has David & Goliath stores in Honolulu, Lahaina and Waikiki. Future stores are planned for Las Vegas and San Francisco, and is also looking at more locations in California and Florida, says Jim Geiger, an official at Waikiki Traders. "We're looking for controlled growth and will probably be sticking to the top tourist locations."
Conceived and developed by designer Todd Goldman, a former certified public accountant, the merchandise line includes backpacks, T-shirts, pajamas and jewelry emblazoned with slogans such as "boys are smelly" and "it's all about me." The store markets itself to girls and women from 10 year old to college age and even "suburban car pool moms."
The Mall of America location is a partnership between David & Goliath and Waikiki Trader Group, a Hawaii-based retail company that looks for concepts such as D&G with which to partner.
"Mall of America…is the perfect location to showcase our off-beat humor," Geiger says.
