The funding is to be split between improvements and workspace refurbishment in Essex. The funding for Kent will go for community regeneration, environmental improvements, land and property acquisition and a skills center. "By integrating environmental protection into the wider development of the gateway we can ensure that it has a positive environmental image," states Royal Society for the Protection of Birds regional director Chris Corrigan.
The London Development Agency has also secured funding to upgrade electricity provision for Dagenham Dock, while Swanscombe in Kent will be able to fund better facilities. Prescott also announced the launch of the Thames Gateway Delivery Office.
