The company, which is based in Georgsmarienhutte, Germany, also builds components for armored vehicles. Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced Pgam's plans on the eve of her departure on a trade mission to Germany.
The governor, joined by Oakland County executive L. Brooks Patterson and other officials, will spend five days in Germany meeting with a variety of companies, asking them to do exactly what Pgam is doing--expanding in Michigan. "We're pleased to help [Pgam] grow and are working to attract more investment," Granholm says.
The Michigan Economic Growth Authority on Tuesday was expected to approve $1.7 million in single business tax credits for Pgam. The company also has asked Auburn Hills to approve $700,000 in local taxabatements. German-owned companies employ 172,000 workers inMichigan. The state estimates German investment in Michigan is worth $31 billion.
