In a relocation, consolidation and expansion, Stryker will still employ 200 people in the 75,000 sf of class A space leased at 1410 Lakeside Parkway, an 85,000-sf building owned by Granite Properties of Dallas. The move takes place March 1.
"Communications has grown quite rapidly because of demand in the market," J. Patrick Anderson, vice president of strategy and communications says, "and will be a good driver in the future." He tells GlobeSt.com that the lease was expiring in San Diego so the corporate team looked at relocating the entire communications group due to the costs of doing business and living in California.
"Instead of looking again in San Diego, they said 'let's take a fresh look' and the fresh look resulted in moving to Dallas," Anderson explains. He says Stryker's endoscopy division, parent of the communications group, will remain in San Jose.
The communications group's high growth was a precipitating factor in the decision swinging to Granite's three-month-old building, the first phase to a 43.8-acre park with ample room for a build-to-suit. The new lease includes some extra time to decide if the 10,000-sf balance of 1410 Lakeside Parkway is needed. Anderson says Stryker will "be a little shy" of the 200-employee mark when the operation is set up, but expects to "fairly quickly" reach the benchmark.
Stryker's communications group develops systems to link operating rooms with facilities worldwide. The systems are supported with integrated surgical equipment, lights and booms for real-time information exchanges of MRIs, X-rays and live pictures to connect the operating room to doctors' offices and teaching institutions. The endoscopy division develops integrated video products and specialty surgical equipment for arthroscopy, laparoscopy, urology and sports medicine.
