Slated to be completed by late 2006 or early 2007, the 60-bed, five-story rehabilitation hospital will provide specialized inpatient treatment for children. The total building space will be about 140,000 sf.

The new facility will be the 10th in the chain of affiliates of Children's Specialized Hospital, based in Mountainside. The group is said to be the largest of its kind specializing in children's rehabilitation in the country. Facilities include Child Health Institute of New Jersey, a $72-million, four-story biomedical research and care center begun in 2002, the institute, which houses 40 research labs, a pediatric clinical research center and outpatient care facilities, specializes in genetic and cellular diseases, including autism, childhood cancers and juvenile diabetes.

However, the PSE&G name might not be on the building when it opens. Its parent company, Public Service Enterprise Group, has been courted recently by the Chicago-based Exelon Corp., and on Dec. 20 the two companies announced an agreement to merge and become Exelon Electric & Gas.
