The hotel is to be built along the Grand River near a new convention center that bears DeVos' name. A 700-space parking ramp will be built next to the hotel.
Viewed from above, the tower is to look somewhat like a football, Alticor says. The company says each guest room will offer a panoramic view because of the curvature of the building.
Plans call for a 13,600-sf ballroom with seating for 1,000 people and a helicopter landing pad on the roof. Amway co-founders Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel, who died Dec. 7, initiated the project.
