BOSTON-The Boston Sports Club will open a new facility at 695 Atlantic Ave. here. The fitness center will lease approximately 20,000 sf and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2005.

The opening of the new facility will mark the third for the BSC franchise in the past year. The health and fitness center chain owned and operated by Town Sports International. In September, BSC leased 57,000-sf at The Arsenal on the Charles, and in December the chain announced plans to open its flagship location in the fall at the Newbry, the 501 Boylston St. building owned by Beacon Capital Partners.

Located across from the South Station Intermodal Transportation Center, 695 Atlantic Ave. is a 173,013-sf mixed-use office/retail building that was formerly the historic Essex Hotel. Built in 1899, the building was renovated in 1987 and again in 2004. The recent renovation included a façade restoration, new windows and a new roof. The property is now 100% leased.

Kenneth Fries of Urban Retail Properties represented the building owner, 695 Atlantic Ave. LLC. Robert Fitzgerald of NAI Hunneman Commercial Company negotiated on behalf of Boston Sports Club. The property is managed by Spaulding and Slye Colliers.
