SAN DIEGO-BarriouHaus, a mixed-use development, has gotten under way in the Barrio Logan neighborhood. The project is being designed and developed by Blockhaus LLC, a local development company founded by architect Graham Downes. Located about a mile southeast of Petco Park at the corner of National and 16th avenues, the project is set on one acre and is planned for 39,000 sf of office and retail at buildout. The project is set for completion by the end of the year. The office suites will range from 1,200 sf to 9,000 sf. There's restaurant space set for 1,200 sf to 3,500 sf and retail also set aside for 1,200 sf to 3,500 sf.The impetus behind the BarriouHaus project is in attracting a creative tenant base including advertising/graphic firms, artists and performance groups, according to Downes. "BarrioHaus is the first development of its kind in Barrio Logan," he says. "Our goal is to position this project as a catalyst for redevelopment in this neighborhood."One of the first moves, on the project, was having Graham Downes Architecture relocate onsite. The firm relocated last fall from East Village and is occupying 9,000 sf.Downes says he founded Blokhaus LLC as a "think tank" development and branding company. It is focusing on urban infill and adaptive re-use projects in both San Diego and Las Vegas. Recent projects include Neuhaus Ateliers, an apartment project in East Village and 2121-Haus in Las Vegas, a mixed-use office and retail development.
