03/03/05: The US Bureau of Economic Analysis just reported that total income recieved by individuals--without adjusting for inflation--decreased 2.3 % in January. This decrease isn't the most welcome news, but it's what's behind this decrease that needs closer scrutiny. Most of it is due to the special $3.00 dividend paid out by Microsoft Corp. in December. In other words, one enormous payout by one of the largest corporations on the planet had an incredible impact on the economy. If this doesn't raise any red flags about our dependence on huge, monolithic organizations--whether they be private or public--then we're not paying enough attention. Imagine then the impact of a social security structure gone awry. Whether you agree with privatization of social security or not, we as a nation must debate the merits of correcting a system that is in need of retooling.

	NAI HIFFMAN (OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL) The firm has appointed Brian Colson as vice president of its industrial brokerage group. Colson primarily focuses on the O'Hare and West suburban markets surrounding Chicago. The firm has also promoted James Adler as vice president of its office brokerage group. With the company since 1997, Adler works in the East-West Corridor suburban office market.

	SCI REAL ESTATE INVESTMENTS (LOS ANGELES) Douglass E. Johnston Jr. has joined the firm as its new chief executive officer. Johnston was most recently executive vice president of finance and administration at Platinum Equity LLC.
	HIGGINS DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS (NEWPORT BEACH, CA) New to the firm is Nader Shah, who has joined as senior vice president and regional manager. Shah was previously head of the Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Project for Orange County, CA.
	ALLIANCE RESIDENTIAL (CHICAGO) The firm has tapped Leslie Olsen Andren as senior vice president in its transactions group, where she will run acquisitions and dispositions. Andren previously served as partner at Moran & Co.
	TRAMMELL CROW CO. (ATLANTA) The firm has named David Lanier as area director for its Atlanta office. Lanier previously served at Equity Office Properties, where he was managing director and oversaw suburban office properties.
	QUADRELLE GROUP (MAMARONECK, NY) Robert Hassler has been tapped as senior vice president and partner; he will work in the firm's brokerage division. Hassler was most recently president at Beacon Realty Services.
