The village also has hired Douglas Farr of FARR Associates and Susan Campbell of Campbell Tiu Campbell as architecture and planning consultants. The technical assistance panel held three meetings in Riverdale in 2004 after visiting the Pacesetter neighborhood in October 2003.
Many of the Pacesetter units belong to absentee owners. Improvements to the area could include extending streets to the neighborhood. Redevelopment could involve purchases of units by low-income families.
"I probably had thought we were going to demolish [Pacesetter]," says Riverdale Mayor Zenova Evans. "The hope is that it will eliminate the negative impression of a previously redeveloped community and to make it a part of all of Riverdale, as well as [to build] quality housing again."
