WOODBRIDGE, NJ-A total of 104,056 sf of space has been taken in two new lease signings at St. Georges Crossing, a 318,000-sf shopping center here. And most of that new tenancy is non-retail.

Levin Management, which has been renovating and repositioning the complex, has signed Woodbridge Crossing Self Storage to the entire 93,742-sf second floor of the former Caldor store here. When Caldor shuttered the nearly 190,000-sf store a few years ago, Shop-Rite took the opportunity to expand its own presence at the complex by moving from its original 36,000-sf supermarket to the entire 91,000-sf first floor of bankrupt discounter's former space. Access to the self-storage operation above if will be by external escalator and internal elevator.

In the other signing, lifestyle retailer Pier 1 Imports has taken a 10,314-sf endcap space that is part of Shop-Rite's original space. With the signing, the 36,000-sf former supermarket space has largely been filled. Terms of the signings were not disclosed. Other anchor tenants at St. Georges Crossing include Office Max PetSmart and P.C. Richard & Sons.

"That Pier 1 Imports should join us says a lot about the vitality of the center and the entire market area," says Matthew Harding, president/COO of the North Plainfield, NJ-based. "And Woodbridge Crossing Self Storage, by taking the second floor space, was able to enter a densely populated market at a realistic rental, allowing them to be very competitive. It also allowed us to fill space that was no longer well-suited to retail."
