NORTHGLENN, CO-The city has selected the team of Opus Northwest, LLC and Goldberg Properties to design, build and lease a new destination retail and entertainment district at the heavily-traveled corner of 120th and I-25, eight miles north of Downtown Denver. The city also announced that its 120th project will be directed by Northglenn economic development director Stephanie Salazar, a 20-year veteran in commercial real estate and municipal infrastructure development.
Salazar has extensive experience with real estate investment trusts and economic market analysis. Northglenn city council members unanimously approved city staff to finalize terms with the Opus/Goldberg team and an interim agreement is expected by March 25 that will allow work on the project to proceed. A final agreement is anticipated by the end of June.
The Opus/Goldberg team was a finalist with the team of Miller Weingarten/Communications Arts. "This project represents an enormous opportunity for Northglenn because it will serve as both a valued community amenity and a destination for people from around the region," says Northglenn Mayor Kathleen Novak.
The 17-acre project is at the southeast corner of 120th Avenue and I-25. Northglenn already has acquired most of the land needed for the project and has signed Century Theatres to anchor the new district with a high-end, 16-screen theater complex. The national theater chain is on target for a spring 2006 opening.
"With these strong partners working together to shape the project, residents will truly be given a first-class entertainment venue," says Raymond Svufy, chairman and chief executive officer of Century Theatres.
