Pottery maker Joe Craven is selling the land to consolidate his investments and to move the pot manufacturing and retail business into new quarters when the redevelopment takes shape. "He is also selling at this time because the [pottery] business is only using 30% to 40% of the 137 acres," Slattery tells GlobeSt.com. Slattery is selling the land for Craven.
Separately, Craven is also selling his 20,000-sf home, 40 adjoining acres and 1,000-acre cattle ranch near Maysville, area brokers familiar with the property tell GlobeSt.com. The asking price for the home and 40 acres is $5 million.
The Pottery site is on US 441 near Interstate 85 in Jackson County, about 50 miles northeast of Downtown Atlanta. The envisioned redevelopment project already has drawn a horde of developers anxious to be selected. "The City of Commerce is strongly behind the project and the big job soon will be to weed out the strongest [developer] prospects," Slattery says. "The response [from the development community] has been strong. "
The allocation of retail, office, residential and commercial space still has to be worked out, Slattery says. "There already is about 300,000 sf of existing retail at or near this intersection so the project will be a little easier to do than if it was a straight development job," Slattery tells GlobeSt.com.
