The move, which was first reported by Globest.com in January, has Babson leaving its 50,000-sf present location at One Memorial Dr. in Cambridge for nearly 84,000 sf at the new digs this summer.

"The property provides us with desirable access to Boston's Downtown Financial District and close proximity to Logan Airport, South Station and the region's major throughways," says Bill Glavin, president and CEO of Babson Capital, in a statement.

Babson Capital is in a strong growth period, with a three-year average annual growth rate of 10%, according to Glavin. "We have a number of initiatives in place to help continue our expansion this year and beyond, and our new location should be a great asset," he adds.

Situated on the site of the Boston Tea Party, Independence Wharf is a 14-story, 336,725-sf first-class office building that features spectacular views of the city and harbor. The building's owners, GE Capital Corp., contracted the architectural firm of Jung Brannen to design the lobby, plaza, sidewalk, and common areas when the building was completely renovated in 2003.

EVP Stuart Romanoff and director Amy Fox of Cushman & Wakefield New York, and executive directors Mark Winters and Dave Martel of C&W Massachusetts represented Babson Capital in the transaction. Senior directors Frank Nelson and Gil Dailey of C&W Massachusetts represented Independence Wharf.
