Marcus Corp. had originally planned to open a Baymont Inn & Suites on the River North site, formerly a Sports Authority outlet on the north side of Ontario Street between Rush Street and Wabash Avenue across the street from a Lenox Suites hotel. Plans for the hotel, being built for about $40 million, changed last summer when the company sold its 17,000-room limited-service hotel division to LaQuinta Corp. for $415 million.
"Chicago is a dynamic and growing market that was a top priority for Marcus Hotels & Resorts as we continue to expand our portfolio of distinctive properties," says Marcus Hotels & Resorts president and chief operating officer Bill Otto. "We believe there is a need in the market for a boutique-like hotel that offers the amenities that appeal to today's travelers in a warm and friendly atmosphere."
Four Points by Sheraton caters to the mid-price business and leisure market. The Downtown hotel will include meeting space as well as three restaurants.
