In his new role, Bucholtz will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the newly renovated and upgraded hotel. Prior to being named GM at Grand Hyatt Denver, Bucholtz, a 20-year veteran in hotel operations, held the same position at Hyatt Regency Tampa. In addition to that hotel, he has held the general manager post at Hyatt Charlotte and Hyatt Regency Atlanta Suites.

Bucholtz will provide the Grand Hyatt with a "solid foundation for the future. Having him at the hotel and in Denver will be a competitive strength for us," says Sue Rodgers, the owner of the hotel.

One of Bucholtz's initial objectives will be to see the completion of the renovation of the hotel's porte cochere entrance and lobby renovations that are slated to be completed later this year. This update to the hotel's public space follows recent guestroom and conference facility makeovers. The Grand Hyatt Denver has also added 20,000 sf of recently renovated meeting space on the 38th floor of the Pinnacle Club in a neighboring office building.

Meanwhile, Schafer will oversee the December opening of the convention center Hyatt. A 26-year Hyatt veteran, Schafer came to Denver as general manager more than 15 years ago. He joined what is now called the Grand Hyatt Denver in 1989 and oversaw the recent $15 million renovation and the name change of the hotel, which was formerly known as Hyatt Regency Denver. Before landing in Denver, he worked at eight other Hyatt hotels.

When Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center opens in December, it will become Hyatt's fourth property in Colorado. It also has the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa in Beaver Creek, eight miles west of Vail and the Hyatt Regency Tech Center, in the Denver Technological Center.
