The Onyx buy was the second Boston acquisition for LaSalle, which also owns the Harborside Hyatt Hotel at Logan Intenational Airport. In a statement issued by Kimpton, the firm's chairman and CEO Thomas LaTour, says, the Onyx Hotel continues to show excellent growth potential as a top-performing urban hotel. "We are confident that LaSalle Hotel Properties' support will ensure the property's success."

Situated in the historic Bullfinch Triangle, the hotel is just blocks from the BankNorth Garden and a short distance from the city's historical landmarks such as Faneuil Hall, Bunker Hill and Old North Church. Developed by David Leatherwood of Portland Street LP as the only luxury hotel in the North Station area, it features a two-tone red brick and aluminum contemporary exterior and an interior crafted by Boston designer Lynn MacMurtry of Group One.
