One of the plants Visteon may sell to Ford is a plant at 18 Mile and Mound in Sterling Heights, which employs about 2,600 and makes chassis parts. The other plants have not been identified. Visteon has nine factories in southeastern Michigan.
The Van Buren-based company had combined losses of $3.28 billion from 2001 through the first quarter of 2005. The restructuring may be announced before June 1, according to various sources. The union and the company have confirmed that talks are ongoing.
